‘From Design to Reality’: The Hangout Youth Shelter Workshop
On 8 December, the Springfield Village team led a workshop with Design and Technology students from St John Bosco College including the winning designer for the Hangout Youth Shelter to be located in the new Springfield Park. The young designers worked with team members from: master developer STEP; main contractor for the hospitals, park and infrastructure Sir Robert McAlpine; and landscape architect Barton Willmore to brainstorm how to take an initial concept through collaborative design development and into construction.
STEP General Manager Harriet Gladwell-Phillips said:
“It was fantastic to get out and meet young designers in the local community. We were really impressed with their thought provoking ideas and careful consideration of all aspects of moving a design from inception to reality. Ultimately the Hangout Youth Shelter is for the young people of Wandsworth and we’re thrilled that local students have been part of the development process. We look forward to welcoming them to site very soon.”
